Here is an email from Kathy, it seems to outline the situation quite well. --Lacey
Dear Prayer Warriors, I received these e-mails from Brother Jim Anderson in Peru and COVET your prayers for not only the upcoming Peru Trip (July 9-22) but also for the people of Peru. Strikes and protests in Peru are not like the strikes here in the States. Everything is shut down by the strikers, rocks and burning tires are thrown on to roads so they are impassible. Drivers of public transit are attacked if they do go out on their routes. Please join me in fervent prayer for our brothers and sisters in Peru. Kathy @ ACC
received Wednesday 6/24:
You may want to begin monitoring the US State Dept. advice on travel to Peru, or other sources of the news. The Peruvian president is railroading a sale of all water rights in Peru to foreign "investors", against popular vote and opinion. There are strikes, road closures, and the threat of a much wider protest (I don't blame them! the long tradition of selling off all the billions of dollars of mineral rights value, and now the very irrigation water that the people use to grow their food.)
Received today (Thursday, 6/25)
Hope you folks are able to come, but Bernardo says the people are rather on the verge of riot and revolution over the sale of water rights to foreign capitalists.
Please keep us on the prayer chains. As soon as we said all is well, suddenly it seems like nothing is well, at home nor away from home.
Jim
